Police are investigating a series of fires that occurred across several locations in Harlow during May, including derelict sheds, a garage, and a parked vehicle on land off Third Avenue.
Essex officers, working in partnership with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, are conducting inquiries to establish whether these fires are connected.
There was a noticeable spike in local fire incidents reported throughout May at multiple sites around Third Avenue. The fires affected abandoned properties and vehicles, raising concerns within the community about safety and the risk of arson.
In response, authorities have increased patrols in the area to help prevent further incidents. Essex Police are collaborating closely with council partners and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to enhance security measures in the affected locations.
Planned improvements under consideration include the installation of better lighting and CCTV cameras around vulnerable spots. These measures aim to deter potential offenders and ensure public safety in Harlow.
Chief Inspector Emily Holmes emphasised the serious approach being taken to the situation, stating: “We understand the concern these incidents will cause locally and want to reassure residents that we are taking them extremely seriously. Where criminal offences are identified, we will pursue them robustly.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information or footage related to the fires to come forward. Reports can be made online or via the live chat service available 24/7 on the Essex Police website.
