An 18-year-old boy has been fatally stabbed outside a mosque on Oldbury Road, Smethwick, sparking a murder probe by West Midlands Police. The shocking attack happened during Friday evening Ramadan celebrations, leaving two other men injured but alive.
Police were called after reports of disorder outside the mosque near Birmingham. The teenager was found with serious stab wounds and died at the scene despite emergency efforts. Two men, aged 19 and 22, were hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to give statements.
West Midlands Police said the killing is not being treated as religiously or racially aggravated at this stage, a significant initial assessment given the timing and location. “We understand how deeply distressing and concerning this incident is,” the force said. “Extra officers will be deployed over the coming days to reassure the community.”
