A Leeds woman who helped a suspect wanted for discharging a firearm to escape the UK has been sentenced to two years behind bars.
Rashawn Bedeau provided six months of financial support to Ellis Thornton after he fled the country. Thornton was wanted by West Yorkshire Police in connection with a firearm incident on Halifax’s Lister Lane.
On January 31, 2023, Bedeau flew to Barbados with Thornton, fully aware that he was evading the law. She continued sending money to him as he moved from Suriname to Mexico until July 2023.
Ellis Thornton remains wanted in the UK for the Halifax firearms case but is currently in custody in the United States on unrelated offences.
Bedeau, 28, of Arley Street, Leeds, appeared at Leeds Crown Court on January 16 for sentencing and received a two-year prison sentence.
