Two men from Surrey have been formally charged in connection with the shocking rape of a 19-year-old woman in Brighton earlier this month.
George Elliott, 40, and Mark Lett, 42, both residents of Redstone Road, Redhill, face serious charges including rape and intent to commit a sexual offence.
The attack occurred on December 21 in Steine Lane, Brighton. The suspects were arrested following a swift investigation by Sussex Police.
Elliott and Lett appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on December 28. Both men were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on December 30 as the case progresses.
The victim reported that she was approached around 3:30 a.m. near Harry Ramsden’s restaurant on Old Steine before being attacked in a nearby lane. Fortunately, she was able to flag down a passer-by who immediately alerted Sussex Police.
The 19-year-old victim is now receiving specialist support.
Sussex Police have not released further details about the suspects or the exact circumstances of the incident.
Detective Inspector Sean Booth said, “We are still urging anyone with information about this incident to contact Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Attach.”
He praised the victim’s bravery and emphasized the importance of public assistance as the investigation continues.
