Emergency crews responded quickly on the evening of April 26 after two individuals were seen in distress at Chichester Marina. The dramatic rescue unfolded as the Coastguard called for immediate assistance at 7:40pm following urgent reports.
Both lifeboats from the local station were dispatched to the scene, accompanied by Coastguard rescue helicopter 175. One of the victims managed to climb back onto their dinghy, while the other remained in the water. Lifeboat crews promptly pulled both people to safety and wrapped them in blankets to prevent shock.
The rescued individuals were transported by the Atlantic 85 lifeboat to the Chichester Marina pontoon. Members of the Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team then escorted them to the Marina office to recover from the ordeal. Meanwhile, rescue helicopter 175 had landed nearby, and its paramedic collaborated with a fast-response ambulance crew to provide immediate medical treatment on site.
Both casualties were subsequently transferred by ambulance to hospital for further care. The coordinated efforts of lifeboat crews, Coastguard teams, helicopter personnel, and paramedics ensured a swift and safe rescue operation.
