A drug dealer has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison following a vicious attack that resulted in a man’s death in Manchester. Mohammed Faisal Ubaid, from Denver Road, was sentenced today at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court after pleading guilty to manslaughter and conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
Just one day before the fatal assault on 4 September 2019, CCTV footage outside Ubaid’s home showed him aggressively pointing at and accusing John Rimmer. Witnesses revealed that John had sustained injuries from previous attacks by Ubaid, with visible bruises on his face.
The following day, CCTV captured John entering Ubaid’s house alone. Later, a man was seen carrying John’s unconscious body to a car before rushing him to Rochdale Infirmary. John suffered severe brain injuries and was subsequently transferred to Oldham Hospital, where he died the next day.
Police discovered blood-stained trainers belonging to Ubaid that contained John’s DNA. Ubaid was arrested on suspicion of murder and charged shortly afterward. Investigators also uncovered messages indicating that John was working for Ubaid delivering class A drugs. The victim described himself as ‘running for Cabs,’ which was Ubaid’s nickname in the drug trade. Authorities believe Ubaid suspected John of stealing drugs, which triggered the fatal attack.
Detective Chief Inspector Colin Larkin praised the community for their support and bravery. He said, “John was a straightforward and honest man who shared love with those around him. Ubaid’s relentless bullying led to John’s tragic death. After the attack, he involved others to hide what he’d done. The CCTV footage was crucial in landing this violent man behind bars.”
He added, “I want to thank the community and brave witnesses who helped secure justice. Without them, Ubaid might not have pleaded guilty. We hope this sentence offers some comfort to John’s family and sends a clear warning about the deadly consequences of drug dealing.”
