Firefighters rushed to a large fire at the derelict Upland Park Hotel in Droxford at 4.51am today. Upon arrival, crews found the former hotel fully alight, with flames so intense that part of the structure collapsed.
Officials were initially concerned that squatters might be inside the building, but Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed that no one was present during the blaze.
Multiple fire teams from Droxford, Bishops Waltham, Fareham, Botley, Portchester, and additional support units worked together to tackle the inferno.
Hours after the fire began, smoke and steaming continued to affect the Garrison Hill area. The fire service advised residents to expect lingering smoke throughout the day. A spokesman said, “Incident scaling down but still awaiting a stop message. Beware that in the area of Garrison Hill, Droxford there will be steaming and smoking for the rest of the day.”
This is not the first fire at the Upland Park Hotel site. Fire crews also battled flames here on June 12, 2018, when part of the old hotel caught fire. The derelict building remains a risk to the local community.
