More than a dozen drivers were caught speeding and committing other traffic offences during a significant police operation in Thanet on Monday, January 17, 2022.
The crackdown was part of Kent Police’s Neighbourhood Policing Week, which ran from January 17 to 23. The week-long initiative celebrates officers’ efforts to maintain safety within local communities.
The operation focused on known speeding hotspots and areas prone to anti-social driving behaviours.
Teams from the Thanet Multi-Agency Task Force, Special Constabulary, PCSOs, and the Thanet Local Policing Team stopped over 20 vehicles during the enforcement activity. Thirteen drivers were reported for offences, predominantly speeding violations.
One particularly reckless driver was recorded travelling at 58 mph in a 30 mph zone on Pysons Road in Ramsgate.
Speed checks were conducted at several locations including Hartsdown Road in Margate, Nethercourt Hill and Pysons Road in Ramsgate, and Ramsgate Road in Broadstairs.
Inspector Ian Swallow of the Thanet Community Safety Unit emphasised the importance of adhering to speed limits, stating, “Traffic issues matter to residents as anti-social vehicles can have a negative impact on wellbeing in the community as well as cause potentially serious safety risks.”
He added, “Our officers regularly carry out traffic checks in Thanet to reinforce the message that every road user has a responsibility to keep people safe, drive within the speed limit, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.”
