Emergency services scrambled to a fatal collision at the junction of Mervan Road and Effra Road, SW2, on Monday afternoon. A cyclist in his 60s was crushed in a smash involving a lorry, with the London Ambulance Service called to the scene just after 4:15pm.
Paramedics, police, and the London Fire Brigade acted fast, but sadly the cyclist died at the scene. Authorities have informed his next of kin but are withholding further details for now.
The lorry driver stayed at the scene and is helping officers with their enquiries into how the crash unfolded.
Effra Road remains shut both ways as police work on the investigation. Motorists are urged to avoid the area to ease congestion.
Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage are asked to contact police on 101, quoting CAD 4830/14Oct.
This fatal smash is a stark reminder of the risks faced daily by cyclists and drivers alike on London’s roads. The investigation is ongoing, with updates expected as new information emerges.
