A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a 65-year-old woman found dead at a property on Durrington Lane, Durrington.
Police and emergency services responded to the scene at around 7:50pm on Thursday, 14 May, after concerns were raised about the woman’s welfare.
The man, who is also from Durrington, remains in custody and is additionally suspected of assaulting a police officer. Officers have confirmed that the victim and the suspect were known to each other.
Detective Inspector Amanda Zinyama, from the Major Crime Team, described the incident as “tragic” and stated that the investigation is currently in its early and fast-moving stages.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene following the emergency response.
Extensive enquiries are ongoing as officers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. Authorities have reassured the public that the incident is believed to be isolated.
Police have stated there is no wider threat to the community and that they are not seeking any other suspects at this time. An increased police presence remains in the area as investigations continue.
