Police are searching for a man caught on CCTV following a brutal Boxing Day assault on a Tesco security guard in Leytonstone. The attack left the victim with a serious eye injury and permanent damage.

Security Guard Attacked During Duty at Leytonstone Tesco

At around 4pm on 26 December 2025, a violent incident broke out at Tesco on Gainsborough Road, E11. A man in his 60s working as a security guard was assaulted while attempting to stop a suspect from leaving the store. The attack resulted in significant trauma to the guard’s eye, requiring hospital treatment and resulting in lasting visual impairment.

Two others were injured in the altercation: another security guard and a member of the public both sustained minor injuries while intervening in the disturbance.

Police Appeal After CCTV Footage Released

Detective Chief Inspector Claudine Davie condemned the attack, stating: “This was a violent attack on a member of staff who was simply doing his job.”

Police have issued CCTV images of the suspect and are urging anyone who recognises the man, or witnessed the attack, to come forward immediately.
