At 1.46pm on November 22, staff at Fareham Police Station on Quay Street were shocked when a suspected unexploded bomb was handed in. Officers acted fast, cordoning off a 100-metre radius and ordering nearby buildings, including Tesco, to be evacuated.
Royal Navy Bomb Squad Moves In
The Royal Navy’s Ordnance Explosive Disposal team quickly arrived on the scene. Experts swiftly and safely removed the suspicious device, allowing police to lift the cordon shortly afterwards.
Shoppers Flee Tesco in Emergency
Customers inside Tesco had to make a speedy exit as a precaution. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary reassured the public that safety was paramount throughout the tense operation.
“The Royal Navy Ordnance Explosive Disposal team attended and took the device away before the cordon was lifted,” a police spokesperson said.
