Drink-Driving Disaster Lands Jason Povey Behind Bars

Jason Povey, a man with no fixed address, has been jailed after a string of shocking offences. At Salisbury Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Povey pleaded guilty to aggravated car theft, driving while banned, uninsured driving, and refusing a breath test. He was sentenced to four months in prison and slapped with a driving ban of just over four years.

Chaos Hits Trowbridge Streets

The nightmare began on Monday night (13/10) when a member of the public spotted a suspected drink driver in Oatfields, Trowbridge. Minutes later, police were called to reports of a damaged blue Kia Rio abandoned in a Marston Road car park. The car’s front offside tyre was shredded, and witnesses said sparks flew from the vehicle as it sped along the road. Povey was found nearby, wobbling on his feet and clutching a bottle of vodka.

Refused Breath Test, Facing Multiple Charges

Povey refused to provide a breath specimen, prompting his arrest. Police investigations uncovered that he had taken the Kia without permission. He was charged, remanded in custody, and now faces jail time alongside a lengthy driving ban.

Police Condemn Reckless Drinking and Driving

PC Layton from the Volume Crime Team said: “There is no excuse for Povey’s actions. Choosing to drive intoxicated is unacceptable and we take it very seriously. Thankfully, no one was hurt that night. We will not tolerate this behaviour and will keep prosecuting for the fatal five offences.”
