Met Police Issue Euro 2020 Safety Warning Ahead of Kick-Off
Chief Inspector Joe Stokoe, spokesperson for the Met’s Euro 2020 policing operation, urged fans to enjoy the tournament safely as the city gears up for the big event.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting the Euros,” he said. “People have waited ages for this and excitement is sky-high. We ask the public to look after themselves and each other and enjoy the occasion responsibly.”
Stay Alert, Respect Others, Follow Guidelines
Stokoe stressed the importance of vigilance. “Our officers are here for you—so if you have concerns, please speak up. Stay alert and report anything suspicious. Also, be prepared for poor weather.”
He also urged respect for Londoners not watching the games. “Remember, not everyone will be joining in the celebrations, so behave respectfully.”

No Ticket? Don’t Come to London
The police have contingency plans for any incidents but warned: “If you don’t have tickets for the matches, fan zones, or official bookings in pubs or clubs, don’t come to London. You risk missing out on the game entirely.”
Last night, a section 35 dispersal order was issued, effective until 3pm Saturday 19th June, to curb disorder. The Met has a flexible plan to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour during the event.
Two Arrests Made Ahead of Euro Action
- A 25-year-old man was arrested for indecent exposure in Hyde Park. He was cautioned and released from police custody.
- Another man remains in custody in south London after being arrested for attempted theft of a police officer’s hat, assault with intent to avoid arrest, and assault on an emergency worker.
Fans are urged to follow police advice and keep the Euros safe and enjoyable for all.
