Nearly 40 Years On, Police Reopen Cold Case Murder in Kilburn

In December 1983, 50-year-old Christopher Ainscough was found dead inside his home at Windmill Court, Shoot Up Hill, Kilburn. He suffered severe head injuries, believed to be from an attack between December 2 and 5. The case went cold as police failed to find his killer—or even identify Christopher’s next of kin.

Unsolved Murder Sparks Fresh Police Appeal

Christopher, originally from Dublin, vanished from the family radar after his death. Now, after nearly four decades, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding of the Specialist Crime Command is urging the public to help. “If you knew Christopher or his family, get in touch. We want to inform his next of kin and show them Christopher remains central to our investigation.”

Breakthrough Leads to Arrest in 1983 Killing

The murder probe was reignited after someone came forward to police in late 2020 with new information. On Tuesday, February 2, a 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently held in custody at a south London police station.

Police Seek Help to Find Christopher’s Family

Police are appealing to anyone with information on Christopher or his family to call the incident room on 020 8721 4205. The force is keen to bring justice to the victim and closure to his loved ones, even after all these years.
