Car Set Ablaze Outside Littleborough Home in Dead of Night
Fiery Attack Sparks Major Police Probe
In the early hours of September 6, terror struck Littleborough when a family’s car was deliberately torched on their driveway. The inferno quickly spread to their house on Cleggswood Avenue, risking the lives of a mother, her young child, and their pets. Luckily, the car alarm blared just in time to wake them and prevent a catastrophe.
“A mother and her young child were asleep in their home when their car was set alight on the driveway, just outside the front door,” said Detective Constable Mel Jeffery of Rochdale Police. “The flames rapidly engulfed the front of the house, but the car’s alarm saved their lives. The family is safe but shaken, dealing with unimaginable trauma.”
Police Hunt Suspects After ‘Targeted’ Arson
Officers suspect the blaze was no random act. A vehicle was spotted arriving from Hollingworth Road shortly before the fire and leaving soon after. Police want to speak with the driver or occupants as they could hold crucial information. A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stalking and conspiracy to commit arson but was released on bail pending investigation.
“We believe this was a targeted incident,” added DC Jeffery. “There is no wider threat, but we are committed to bringing those responsible to justice.”
Locals Urged to Check Footage and Help Police Catch Arsonists
Police are appealing to residents and workers near Cleggswood Avenue to review any CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage from the early morning of September 6. “Even the smallest detail could be the missing piece,” said DC Jeffery.
