Richmond Park Named One of the UK’s Top Autumn Spots!
Country Living has revealed the best places across the UK to soak up the fiery colours of autumn – and London’s very own Richmond Park made the prestigious list. The magazine hails it as a must-visit destination for stunning fall foliage in 2025.
Why Richmond Park Is London’s Autumn Oasis
Country Living praises Richmond Park’s spectacular natural beauty. From ancient trees to vibrant wildlife, it’s Londoners’ go-to spot for autumn magic. The vast green space is famed for rolling hills, peaceful wildlife, and roaming herds of deer.
Often called an “oasis” in the capital, Richmond Park is one of London’s most beloved green lungs. Dating back to 1625, King Charles I made it his private hunting ground during the plague. The red and fallow deer introduced then still roam freely today.
Wildlife and Woodland Wonders
Open to the public, Richmond Park is home to rare species like stag beetles, bats, and moths, alongside a thriving herd of around 600 red and fallow deer. Centuries of deer grazing have shaped this natural playground, covering 40 acres of breathtaking autumn colours.
“A very beautiful park with wild animals, beautiful landscapes and a relaxing environment,” raved a TripAdvisor visitor. Another added, “Superb oasis of trees, fields, streams, lakes, wildlife, birds and delightful deer. It’s breathtaking and truly beautiful.”
Plan Your Visit: Opening Hours and Deer Culls
Richmond Park’s pedestrian gates stay open 24/7 — except during deer culls from November to early December and February to early March. During these times, gates open at 7:30am and close at 8pm, so time your visit accordingly to enjoy this autumnal haven in full glory.
