Girl’s Narrow Escape After Man Tries to Snatch Her Near School
A terrifying abduction attempt shocked the community just before 12.15pm on Old Road, near Mayplace Primary School. Police say a man approached a young girl, trying to grab her, but quick-thinking saved the day.
The girl sprinted straight back to school, safe and unharmed.
Masked Men and Suspicious Van Spotted Close By
In a letter to parents, Mayplace headteacher David Moss warned the community about the suspects. He revealed the main attacker was not alone. Two other masked men were seen hanging around a partly black van nearby.
“A Mayplace child was approached by an adult male who attempted to take them,” Moss said. “Thankfully, the child was safe. But we urge parents to stay vigilant and consider alternative routes or supervision for children walking to school.”
Police Hunt Continues, Residents on High Alert
Metropolitan Police confirmed no arrests have been made yet as urgent investigations continue. Officers have increased patrols in Crayford to reassure worried locals.
“We understand the concern this has caused locally. Anyone with information, including CCTV or doorbell footage, should contact police on 101 quoting CAD 3085/SEP25,” a Met spokesperson said.
