Man denies driving into Liverpool FC parade crowds
Paul Doyle faces 31 serious charges
Paul Doyle, 53, from Croxteth, Liverpool, has pleaded not guilty to all 31 charges linked to the shocking incident at Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade. The charges include:
- Nine counts of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent
- Two counts of wounding with intent
- Eighteen counts of attempted GBH with intent
- One count of dangerous driving
- One count of affray
The allegations involve 29 victims, ranging from a six-month-old baby to a 77-year-old.
Mass panic as car ploughs into fans
The terrifying episode unfolded on Water Street, Liverpool city centre, at around 6pm on 26 May. Crowds had gathered to celebrate Liverpool FC’s title win with an open-top bus parade when a Ford Galaxy crashed into people leaving the waterfront area. Merseyside Police confirmed 134 people were injured in the chaos.
Charges multiply, trial set for November
Initially charged with just seven offences, Doyle now faces 24 additional charges following an extensive investigation. He appeared in court via videolink from prison, where he has been held since his arrest.
Doyle is remanded in custody and is due to stand trial on 25 November.
