Two men have been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences as part of a proactive investigation led by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command. The arrests are linked to suspected connections with Hezbollah, a proscribed organisation under UK counter-terrorism legislation.
Arrests and Charges
Detectives detained a 39-year-old man on Tuesday, April 1, at an address in North West London. He was arrested on suspicion of:
- Being a member of a proscribed organisation
- Preparation for acts of terrorism
- Involvement in a funding arrangement for terrorism purposes
On the same day, officers also arrested a 35-year-old man at an address in West London on suspicion of being a member of a proscribed organisation.
The two men were taken to a London police station but have since been released on bail pending further investigation. They are required to report back in mid-July.
Scope of the Investigation
The investigation primarily focuses on Hezbollah’s activities overseas, as well as potential activity within the UK. The Met Police have assured the public that there is no imminent threat posed by the current investigation.
Searches were carried out at five addresses:
- Two in North West London
- One in West London
- One in South West London
- One in Essex
The searches have now been completed, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, commented on the arrests:
