Police Hunt for Clues After Man’s Mysterious Death in Beeston

West Yorkshire Police are scrambling for answers after the unexplained death of 53-year-old Darren Leach. His body was found last week at a property in Marsden Grove, Beeston, sparking a major investigation.

Unsolved Death and Fire at Beeston Home

Officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team arrived at the scene at 8:29am on Wednesday, 19 March, responding to concerns for Darren’s safety. Tragically, they confirmed he had died. A small fire was also discovered inside the property, adding a layer of mystery to the case.

The cause of death remains unknown, and police are not ruling anything out. Forensic teams are working to find out if the fire played a role in Darren’s demise.

“We are currently treating Darren’s death as unexplained. To help with our enquiries, we would like to hear from any witnesses who might have seen Darren at any point on Tuesday 18 March,” said Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson, who is leading the investigation.

Where Was Darren? Police Timeline of Interest

Detectives want to track Darren’s movements on Tuesday, 18 March, the day before he was found dead. They are keen to hear from anyone who saw him during these key periods:

  • Morning: Possible sightings in Cross Flatts Park, a popular local hotspot near Beeston Road.
  • 12pm to 2:30pm: Walking between the park and shops on Beeston Road.
  • 2:30pm onwards: Any sightings or interactions right up until his death early the next morning.

Community on Edge as Police Ramp Up Patrols

News of Darren’s death has rattled Beeston residents. Police presence around Marsden Grove has increased, offering some reassurance amid growing alarm. Social media is buzzing with shock and sympathy for Darren’s family, who are being supported by specialist officers.

This public appeal follows similar calls that helped solve high-profile incidents, including last year’s 2024 shooting in Cross Flatts Park.

West Yorkshire Police urge anyone who saw Darren on 18 or 19 March — or who has any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage — to step forward now.
