A 15-year-old boy from Northumberland has been charged with preparing an act of terrorism and membership of a proscribed organisation, police have confirmed.

Teen Remanded in Custody

The teenager was charged on Wednesday, 26 February, with:

? Engaging in conduct in preparation for committing acts of terrorismContrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
? Membership of a proscribed organisationContrary to Section 11 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 27 February.

Arrest Part of Intelligence-Led Operation

Counter Terrorism Policing North East (CTPNE) confirmed the boy was arrested on 20 February as part of a pre-planned, intelligence-led operation.

A seven-day detention warrant was granted by the courts on the same day, allowing authorities to continue questioning him.

As part of the investigation, a home in Northumberland was searched.

Police Statement

CTPNE said the arrest was made to prevent any potential threat to public safety and that they continue to work closely with local agencies to investigate.
