Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary Officer Dismissed for ‘Sexually Provocative’ Behaviour
A Hampshire & Isle of Wight police officer has been sacked after making inappropriate sexual advances towards two male colleagues during a drunken work night out at a Wetherspoons pub.
PC Tia Johnson-Warne, who was in her mid-20s at the time, was found guilty of gross misconduct following an internal hearing and has been placed on the College of Policing’s Barred List.
Inappropriate Behaviour at Pub
The misconduct hearing heard that while out drinking at Wetherspoons in Ryde, PC Johnson-Warne grabbed the leg of a fellow officer, PC A, moving her hand up to his thigh. Feeling uncomfortable, PC A excused himself to the bathroom and deliberately sat away from her.
However, PC Johnson-Warne continued her advances by sending explicit text messages, including the message “Don’t you want to f** me?”*, and followed it with an intimate photo.
PC A reminded her that she was already in a relationship with another officer, PC Kane Brookes, who was also present at the pub.
Later in the evening, she rubbed her hand over the crotch of another officer, PC B, for around 20 seconds.
Misconduct Hearing & Verdict
PC Johnson-Warne was found guilty of gross misconduct for her inappropriate touching of PC A and PC B but was cleared of allegations of groping PC A in a car.
Deputy Chief Constable Sam De Reya condemned her “completely inappropriate behaviour”, stating:
“It is deeply troubling that an officer has acted in such a shameful manner, leaving these officers feeling awkward and uncomfortable. Nobody should be left to feel like these officers did because of a colleague’s degrading actions, regardless of whether you are on or off duty.”
She added:
“Her persistent unwanted advances irrevocably damaged their working relationship and caused unnecessary harm to the two individuals. The public expect better from police officers and our force.”
Dismissal and Barred List Placement
As a result of the hearing, PC Johnson-Warne was dismissed from the force and placed on the College of Policing’s Barred List, preventing her from working in policing in the future.
DCC De Reya concluded:
“Her unprofessionalism and completely inappropriate actions undermine the great work that our officers and staff do every day, serving our communities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.”
