SP Manweb engineers have successfully restored power to over 21,000 customers affected by Storm Éowyn, which brought some of the strongest winds in decades to parts of the UK. However, as of today, 1,245 customers are still without power, with efforts ongoing to bring electricity back to them.

The powerful storm caused widespread disruption, with North Wales experiencing the most significant impact as it swept across the country. High winds brought down trees and debris, severely affecting the local electricity network.

Liam O’Sullivan, Distribution Director at SP Energy Networks Manweb, expressed gratitude for the efforts of engineers working tirelessly to restore power. “Our engineers have worked tirelessly throughout the course of today to restore power to as many households as safely possible across the region,” O’Sullivan said. “The storm brought fallen trees and debris onto many parts of our network, and road closures hampered some of our efforts to get power restored in challenging conditions.”

While significant progress has been made, some customers are expected to remain without power overnight. SP Energy Networks has reached out to these customers to offer alternative accommodation where needed. The company has assured that efforts will continue throughout the night and into tomorrow morning, with hopes to restore power to the vast majority of affected customers by tonight.

In addition to the recovery efforts, SP Energy Networks has been working closely with local authorities to contact vulnerable customers on the Priority Services Register. Over 75,000 customers in the area were proactively contacted ahead of the storm to offer support.

O’Sullivan also highlighted the resilience of the network, stating, “We invest billions to ensure our network is safe, reliable, and resilient. However, extreme weather conditions like Storm Éowyn’s strong winds increase the chance of power cuts.”

The storm’s impact on the region serves as a reminder of the challenges posed by severe weather, but SP Energy Networks remains committed to restoring power and supporting affected communities.
