The Metropolitan Police have announced conditions for a protest being held this evening in Whitehall by Stand Up to Racism and associated groups. The demonstration is in response to the presidential inauguration in the United States.

Designated Protest Location

Following discussions with organisers, the protest will take place as a static demonstration in Richmond Terrace, SW1A. Conditions under Section 14 of the Public Order Act 1986 have been imposed, limiting the location to prevent serious disruption to local communities and transport networks.

A spokesperson for the Met said, “We are committed to facilitating the right to protest while balancing the need to minimize disruption to residents, businesses, and traffic in the area.

Timings and Expected Attendance

The protest is expected to draw participants between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., after which the demonstrators are expected to disperse peacefully. Officers will be present to ensure the protest remains lawful and orderly.

Advice for the Public

The Met has advised those traveling through Whitehall this evening to anticipate potential delays and plan alternative routes if necessary. Local businesses and residents are encouraged to follow updates on transport and safety via the Met’s official channels.

This event follows a series of demonstrations in the UK related to political developments in the United States, with previous protests remaining largely peaceful.
