Two Men Charged Over Brighton Rape of 19-Year-Old
Two men from Surrey have been formally charged in connection with the shocking rape of a 19-year-old in Brighton earlier this month. George Elliott, 40, and Mark Lett, 42, both from Redstone Road, Redhill, face serious charges including rape and intent to commit a sexual offence.
The attack took place on December 21 in Steine Lane, Brighton, and the suspects were arrested following a swift police investigation.
Suspects Appear in Court
Elliott and Lett appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on December 28. Both men were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on December 30 as the case progresses.
Eyewitness Helped Police Crack the Case
The victim reported being approached around 3:30 a.m. near Harry Ramsden’s restaurant on Old Steine before being attacked in a nearby lane. Thankfully, he managed to flag down a passer-by who immediately alerted Sussex Police.
The 19-year-old is now receiving specialist support. Sussex Police remain tight-lipped about further details on the suspects or the exact incident.
Police Urge Public for Information
“We are still urging anyone with information about this incident to contact Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Attach,” said Detective Inspector Sean Booth.
He praised the victim’s bravery and stressed the importance of public assistance as the investigation continues.
