Grandmother Stabbed to Death in Quiet Kent Village
Tragedy struck Bright Ridge, Southborough, near Tunbridge Wells, when 82-year-old Sandra Squires was fatally stabbed in her home on August 31. Police were called just before 11pm and pronounced Sandra dead at the scene.
Grandson Found Injured and Later Dies
Sandra’s grandson was also found with stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital in serious condition but sadly died on September 3. He had been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police have confirmed they are not searching for anyone else in connection with the case.
Beloved Member of Grove Bowling Club
Sandra was a cherished figure at the Grove Bowling Club in Tunbridge Wells. A club spokesperson paid tribute, saying: “She and her husband, Bill, joined us around 2006 and Sandra was an enthusiastic bowler who took part in matches and social events. She was well-liked and respected, and will be dearly missed.”
Bill passed away in 2013, but Sandra stayed active in the club for many years, often helping with meals and serving behind the bar.
Community in Shock
Neighbours are devastated by the violence. Bright Ridge resident Kimberley Godsall, 41, said: “It’s very sad for the family involved. This is a tiny, close-knit community and something like this is completely unexpected.”
Local man Len Fermor, 84, added: “We’ve lived here over 50 years and it’s usually so peaceful. It’s horrible to hear something like this has happened.”
Police Investigation Underway
Officers from Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are working alongside the coroner. A spokesperson confirmed no further suspects are being sought. The village mourns Sandra’s loss as the investigation continues.
