Two men from London have appeared before magistrates and are set to face trial in connection with the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Tamba Momodu outside a gym in Telford in 2020.

Deria Hassan, residing at Octavia Court in Watford, and Mahamud Tarabi, residing at Whiteleys Parade in Hillingdon, Uxbridge, both aged 32, appeared before magistrates in Kidderminster on Thursday morning.

The charges relate to the shooting of Tamba Momodu, who was gunned down in the car park of the Bridges Business Park in Horsehay on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, as he was making his way to the gym. An inquest determined that Momodu died from six gunshot wounds to his head and other parts of his body.

In addition to the murder charge, both Hassan and Tarabi are also accused of arson, specifically in relation to a £17,500 vehicle found burnt out following the shooting incident.

During the court appearance, the two men confirmed their name, date of birth, and address but did not indicate a plea. Magistrates remanded them in custody and ordered them to appear before a judge at Stafford Crown Court on Friday morning.

West Mercia Police, who have been investigating the case for three and a half years, announced the arrests on Wednesday. They revealed that three men were arrested on suspicion of murder and arson, with assistance from Dutch authorities in apprehending one of the suspects.

Following Tamba Momodu’s tragic death, his family described him as a “smiley charismatic young man who would light up any room he entered.” They expressed their profound loss, stating that he was a beloved figure in their lives and cherished by all who knew him.

The trial proceedings are set to provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding Momodu’s death, as the accused individuals await their day in court.
