Jordan Wall, aged 25, of Hawthorn Road, Eynsham, was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison at Oxford Crown Court yesterday (26/4).

He was also disqualified from driving for six years after he is released from prison and will have to sit an extended driving test before he can drive legally again.

A jury unanimously found Wall guilty of one count of rape at the same court on 22 March following a seven-day trial.

He pleaded guilty to one count of causing death by dangerous driving at the same court on 10 March.

In the early hours of 18 September 2019, Wall raped the victim after entering their house in Carterton.

Wall was charged with one count of rape on 15 March 2021.

On 11 July 2020, Wall was driving his white Ford Transit van with his passenger, Matthew Hammonds, aged 25, from Carterton, in the Witney area.

From around 8pm to 9.45pm, there were several calls to the police about a white van driving erratically around the town.

The van was seen to contravene red traffic lights several times.

The van went to The Leys recreational ground off Station Lane, where a commotion took place.

Officers responding to reports of the white van arrived in The Leys carpark at around 9.40pm and stopped behind the van.

The van drove at the police car, squeezing through a small gap, and made off from police, leaving The Leys and turning right on to Station Lane.

Officer pursed the van and found it had stopped on Thorney Leys after driving through a red light at a crossroads at speed, crossing onto the opposing carriageway and crashed through the pedestrian railings and into a tree.

Mr Hammonds suffered a fatal head injury and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Wall fled on foot but was found nearby and arrested before being taken to hospital, where he failed a preliminary breath test and a preliminary drugs test, indicating positive results for both cannabis and cocaine. Wall then refused to provide a sample of blood for analysis.

Wall was charged with one count of causing death by dangerous driving on 5 January this year.

Investigating officer for the rape, Detective Constable Grahame Lea, based at Banbury police station, said: “After a very lengthy investigation starting in 2019, during which the victim has shown incredible courage and resilience, I am pleased that justice has been achieved with Wall being convicted of this heinous sexually violent crime.

“At no point has he shown any remorse for his actions and he has caused ongoing suffering for the victim through her having to stand in court giving intimate personal detail.

“I would like to thank the victim for her unwavering support and strength through the investigation and I hope that she can now move on with her life.”

Investigating officer for the fatal road traffic collision, DC Lyndsey Blackaby, based at Bicester Howes Lane police station, said: “This was a tragic incident in which a young man lost his life.

“My thoughts remain with his family at this incredibly difficult time.

“It was found through our investigation that the two men were not wearing seatbelts and Wall was driving in excess of the speed limit and under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

“These are three out of the four ‘fatal four’ factors that can be the cause of a serious injury or fatal collision.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to impress the importance of not driving after drinking alcohol or drugs, and driving within the speed limit as it could result in tragic consequences.”
