Brandon Jones, 23, of Thistledown, Gravesend, has been charged with one count of arson with intent to endanger life.
Kent Police was called to the fire at in Salem Place at 12.42am on Wednesday 31 March 2021.
Officers attended, along with Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the property was evacuated before the fire was safely extinguished. No injuries were reported.
Following the incident Mr Jones was arrested and charged with the offence on Thursday 1 April.
He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on the same day where he was remanded in custody to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 29 April.
