Four Men Jailed Over Sheffield Stabbing That Killed Kavan Brissett
Four men linked to the fatal stabbing of Sheffield man Kavan Brissett have been locked up for their roles in a doomed drug deal that ended in tragedy. Derice Cohen, 19, Jason Baker, 41, Travis O’Grady, 20, and Ethan Hallows, 20, descended on Upperthorpe on the night of 14 August 2018 to carry out the deal, Sheffield Crown Court heard.
Fatal Fight Ends in Tragedy
The drug deal turned violent, resulting in an altercation where Kavan, 21, who was at the scene with the four men, was stabbed in the chest near Langsett Walk. Despite being rushed to hospital, he tragically died four days later on 18 August 2018 from his injuries.
The men had faced conspiracy to commit robbery charges but denied them. Judge Graham Reeds QC later directed a not guilty verdict on these counts. Instead, they pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply class B drugs.

- Derice Cohen, Birch House Avenue, Sheffield – 30 weeks in prison
- Jason Baker, Queen Mary Rise, Sheffield – 36 weeks
- Travis O’Grady, no fixed address – 31 weeks suspended for 18 months
- Ethan Hallows, Stannington Road, Sheffield – 28 weeks
Police Continue Hunt for Key Suspect
South Yorkshire Police’s investigation into Kavan’s death is ongoing. Detective Chief Inspector Jude Ashmore said: “We remain as committed as ever to finding the person responsible for Kavan’s death.”
“The sentencing of these four men is just the latest step in our enquiries. This has been incredibly tough for Kavan’s family, who are still coming to terms with losing a much-loved brother and son.”
“We are urgently appealing for information about wanted man Ahmed Farrah, linked to this case.”
