Officers were called to Baronswood Way on Saturday 10 October, following reports a woman had been assaulted.
Cameron Burgess, 30, of Clearwater, Colchester, was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, assaulting an emergency worker, three counts of assault by beating and threatening to damage or destroy property.
He denied the charges when he appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday 12 October and is due to stand trial at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on 19 March.
