Drug-fuelled burglar nabbed and locked up for four years in Southampton
Darren Jones, 38, with no fixed address, has been slammed with a four-year jail term at Southampton Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to three burglaries on July 25, hitting homes on Alma Road and Southcliff Road.
Heist haul and DNA prove the case
Jones broke in after downing a hefty dose of prescribed drugs. He swiped cash, a PlayStation, a laptop, and other valuables. Cops found his blood at two of the crime scenes. They also matched trainer prints to his footwear, which was later discovered in a tent where Jones was living rough on Six Dials.
Swift arrest and justice served
Jones was arrested once his DNA turned up in the investigation. Charged with three offences, he was remanded and finally sentenced on September 30. Detective Inspector Will Whale slammed the burglar’s actions, saying:
“This person broke into people’s homes and caused long-term impacts on people’s lives. I hope this investigation and prison sentence illustrates that Hampshire Constabulary will do everything possible to support victims of dwelling burglary and bring offenders to justice.”
Police urge public to stay vigilant
DI Whale added: “Please contact us if you have any information on dwelling burglary, stolen goods or if you see anyone acting suspiciously.” The force is keen to crack down on crime and protect the community.
