Man’s Body Found After Trio Swept Out to Sea at Camber Sands
A tragic sea rescue at Camber Sands, East Sussex, ended in heartbreak on Sunday afternoon (July 24) as one man’s body was recovered after being swept out to sea with two others who remain fighting for their lives.
Three Men Struggle Against Dangerous Tides
Emergency services were alerted around 12.30pm after reports of a swimmer missing in the sea. While attending the scene, lifeguards and police discovered two men had suffered cardiac arrest in the water. Both men were promptly given CPR on the beach before ambulances arrived.
Two Men Airlifted to Hospital in Serious Condition
The rescued men were flown by helicopter to William Harvey Hospital in Kent, where they remain in a serious but stable condition under induced coma treatment.
Inspector Mark Evans said, “We are working to identify these two men and locate their family and friends. We’re continuing to work alongside the RNLI and Coastguard.
Body of Third Man Recovered After Surf Club Spotting
The body of the missing swimmer was later located by a local surf club. Despite attempts at CPR by club members, Coastguard, and paramedics, the man could not be revived.
Police confirmed the body has been recovered and is awaiting identification. Inspector Evans added, “We are not searching for anyone else. Identification will be carried out in due course.”
Risky Sea Conditions Warned
Police noted that all three men got into trouble due to the changing tides and hazardous coastline at Camber Sands. The tragic incident is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by the sea.
