Careless Driver Jailed for 16 Months After Grandfather’s Tragic Death

A man has been locked up after causing a grandfather’s death in a careless driving crash. Tiberiu Miclea, 42, from Bordon, admitted causing the fatal collision on February 12.

Head-On Horror on Hampshire Road

It happened around 7.30pm on the A339 at Lasham. Miclea was driving a blue Honda Civic towards Alton when he crossed into the opposite lane. Raymond Malyon, 71, was driving a silver Toyota Corolla the other way. The two vehicles collided head-on as Mr Malyon negotiated a bend.

Mr Malyon was rushed to hospital but sadly died three days later on February 15. His wife, who was in the car with him, suffered serious injuries. Miclea was also badly hurt and taken to hospital.

Judge Slams ‘Careless’ Driver

At Winchester Crown Court on July 12, Miclea was sentenced to 16 months in jail and banned from driving for 32 months. Sergeant Adrienne Jerram said:

“This tragic loss of life could have easily been avoided if Miclea had taken more care on the road. A family has been left devastated by an unnecessary death.

“Motorists must always pay full attention. This collision shows just how catastrophic careless driving can be. It’s not worth risking lives. We will act against those who endanger others on Hampshire and Isle of Wight roads.”

Family’s Heartbreaking Tribute

The Malyon family spoke out after the sentencing.

“The sentence brings back everything fresh and the pain continues. We are still in shock from losing a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, colleague and friend.

“It all feels unreal, like a nightmare we haven’t woken from. Dad should be enjoying life with his family, planning holidays, summer parties and birthdays.

“He should be here helping look after his grandchildren and watching them grow. We should all be sharing many more happy moments together.”
