Gary Brown, a former Army dog handler with over 16 years of military experience, is launching a new dog training business aimed at slashing the shocking number of dogs abandoned or euthanised in UK shelters.
Resolute Dogs Takes on Puppy Crisis in Crawley
Based in Crawley, Resolute Dogs offers puppy classes and one-on-one training sessions designed to get dogs off the shelter list before behavioural problems spiral out of control.
Recent Dogs Trust stats reveal a grim picture: 1.5 million puppies bought annually but nearly 40,000 dogs dumped in shelters each year. Many face euthanasia due to preventable behavioural issues.
Army Discipline to Tackle Shelter Shock
Gary’s military background as a Kennel Manager at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst means he’s got the skills to whip rowdy pups into shape.
“During my time in the Army, I saw first-hand how discipline and structured training can transform a dog’s behaviour,” Gary said. “The same principles apply to pets at home, and I believe that with the right training, we can drastically reduce the number of dogs ending up in shelters.”
Mission: Save Dogs and Educate Owners
Launching officially in August 2024, Resolute Dogs will offer in-person and online courses focusing on early socialisation and behaviour correction, aiming to stop dogs being handed over to shelters in the first place.
Gary also pledges to help local shelters by providing free training sessions to boost dogs’ chances of adoption. To spread his training tips globally, he’s started a YouTube channel packed with expert advice.
After leaving the Army, Gary spent ten years as a High Court Enforcement Agent, even featuring on Channel 5’s “Can’t Pay? We’ll Take It Away.” But his passion for dog training never died.
Despite struggling with Imposter Syndrome, Gary invested heavily in qualifications around dog behaviour and aggression before launching his business.
“Starting a new business has been challenging, but I’m driven to help dogs and their owners. I’ve seen the difference proper training can make, and I’m excited to bring that expertise to the community,” he said.
With Resolute Dogs, Gary Brown isn’t just launching a business — he’s on a mission to save lives, curb shelter overcrowding, and give puppies the best start in life.
