Violence Forces Fire Crews to Retreat
There’s a shocking new danger for UK firefighters—not just battling blazes but dodging attacks from violent gangs. In Merseyside, fire crews were ambushed twice in just 24 hours by teenagers hurling fireworks and logs. The assaults left firefighters temporarily deaf and their engines damaged, forcing them to pull back and call police backup.
Attacks Put Lives at Risk
On October 6, a crew responding to a large fire in Greenacres Park, Beechwood, were targeted with fireworks directly aimed at them. The explosions caused temporary hearing loss for three firefighters and damaged their vehicle.
The very next day, firefighters tackling a small blaze in Walton Hall Park, Walton, were hit again—this time by a log smashed into the rear of their fire engine. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Communities Could Face Dangerous Delays
This isn’t harmless mischief—it’s a violent attack on those risking their lives to protect us. If the assaults continue, Merseyside Fire and Rescue may have to refuse attending emergencies without a police escort. And with police stretched thin, this could leave communities waiting much longer for help—putting your family’s safety on a knife-edge.
