Violent Market Square Brawl Ends in Brutal Beating
A drunken fight exploded in the early hours of July 20 when a man was accused of grabbing a woman passing by. Furious bystanders took justice into their own hands, tackling and beating the man inside a nearby fast-food joint.
The chaos spilled onto West Street, where the victim was thrown to the ground and repeatedly punched, kicked, and kneed in the head. However, CCTV footage later proved the initial sexual assault claim was completely false, confirmed by Metropolitan Police.
Ringleader Alfie Buck Caught in the Act
Alfie Buck, 29, from Bromley’s Riverpark Gardens, was labelled the ringleader of the savage attack. At Bromley Magistrates’ Court on October 9, prosecutor Colette Hanna revealed Buck’s violent role.
“Buck joined in the attack, punching the victim inside McDonald’s. Security ejected the group, but Buck followed the victim outside, grabbed him by the hood and threw him down. He then kicked and punched the man repeatedly in the head and egged others on to join the assault,” said Ms Hanna.
In a brazen move, Buck snatched the victim’s phone and threw it away before storming off. The victim was left with swollen bruises, cuts, and blood pouring from a wound on his ear. Emergency services rushed to the scene.
Judge Suspends Jail Time, But Buck Must Pay Up
Buck pleaded guilty to assault by beating and theft of a mobile phone. He told the court he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and “deeply regrets” his actions.
“I know I shouldn’t act like a superhero and take the law into my own hands. Next time, I’ll calmly call the police. I’ve learnt my lesson and I’m sorry,” Buck said.
District Judge Sarah Turnock slammed the attack as “persistent and sustained,” noting Buck returned multiple times to beat a victim who posed no threat. She blasted Buck for encouraging strangers to join the savage assault.
“You weren’t even involved in the original dispute. It seems you just wanted to get physical,” said the judge.
Despite the severity, Buck’s 16-week prison sentence was suspended due to the impact on his pregnant partner and their baby. He must also stay off alcohol for 90 days and pay £250 compensation to his victim.
