Last month, a major joint operation between Barking and Dagenham Council and the police smashed parking fraud and vehicle offences in the borough. Dubbed Operation Cubo, the day-long blitz saw 13 vehicles clamped and removed, along with multiple permits cancelled.
Fraudsters Targeted and Permits Axed
- 25 penalty charge notices (PCNs) were slapped on offenders, including three oversized vehicles flaunting invalid permits.
- Seven vehicles towed for fraudulent permit use, some with three or more unpaid fines lurking.
- Four more cars nabbed for insurance dodging and fake DVLA paperwork.
- Over 50 Blue Badges checked – several fakes seized on the spot.
- Six bogus QR code stickers found, ripping off residents paying for parking.
- Two uninsured vehicles also impounded by street enforcement teams.
Arrests and Strong Words from Officials
Two arrests were made during the swoop, including one wanted suspect connected to a drink-driving charge.
“This operation shows the strength of partnership working in tackling fraud and keeping our streets safe,” said Councillor Syed Ghani, cabinet member for enforcement and community safety. “From permit abuse to Blue Badge misuse and even scams targeting residents, we’re taking firm action to protect our communities.”
Barking & Dagenham Police neighbourhood Supt Premnath Biju added: “Operation Cubo demonstrates the impact of strong partnership working. By targeting vehicle offences, permit fraud and unsafe practices, we are protecting residents and keeping our streets safe.”
The operation relied heavily on tips from residents, frontline staff, and proactive patrols in hot spot areas. The council thanked all teams involved for their commitment to making Barking and Dagenham safer to live, work, and shop.
