Sid Ali Djelid, aka Mourad Malki, 39, of Smedley Road, Manchester, has been found guilty of five chilling rapes in the city centre. The sinister attacks, targeting vulnerable victims between February and July 2024, were laid bare during a five-week trial at Manchester Crown Court.
Hunting Intoxicated Victims on Manchester’s Streets
The court heard how Djelid, believed to be an Algerian national, stalked intoxicated men and women across town. CCTV footage revealed him leading a woman into a dark alley near Chinatown on February 18th 2024. He raped her, stole her phone, and fled. The victim’s mobile was later tracked to Djelid’s neighbourhood in Cheetham Hill — just minutes from his home.
Cold-Blooded Crimes Against Visitors
His second attack came on June 12th, when Djelid targeted a male visitor outside a bar on Canal Street. After striking up a conversation, he dragged the man to a hidden spot near Richmond Street and assaulted him. Again, he stole valuables — phone, watch, necklace — all tracked back to Cheetham Hill. CCTV showed Djelid wearing a distinctive black puffa jacket.
‘Good Samaritan’ Turns Predator
The fiend’s final assault on July 18th was disguised as an act of kindness. Offering help to a lost tourist, Djelid led him along the canal at Jutland Street before committing yet another rape. He robbed the victim of his phone and wallet, pushing him to the ground as he made off.
Minutes later, Djelid was caught on CCTV making fraudulent purchases at a Cheetham Hill service station using one of the stolen bank cards. He had already admitted four counts of theft linked to these attacks during an earlier hearing.
“Djelid preyed on the vulnerable, showing a chilling lack of conscience,” said the prosecution. “His crimes left lasting scars on innocent victims.”
Manchester Crown Court’s verdict confirms Sid Ali Djelid’s sadistic spree has finally been put to an end.
