Officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) are appealing to the public for information to identify a man captured in CCTV images in connection with a shocking attempted rape at Winson Green Metro station. The incident occurred on October 10th, around 2 pm, when the victim was followed by a man who assaulted her in the tram stairway.
The assailant pushed the victim to the floor and attempted to rape her, prompting her to scream for help. The quick response of the victim and the arrival of the next tram forced the attacker to flee the scene. The victim, in a courageous move, left the station and sought assistance from a woman in a nearby street. Detectives are urging this woman to come forward to aid their investigation.
During the assault, the victim sustained a knee injury requiring hospital treatment. Detective Inspector Ray Ascott described the incident as “shocking and incredibly brazen,” emphasising the urgent efforts to identify and locate the responsible individual.
CCTV images of a man believed to have valuable information have been released, and officers are encouraging anyone who recognises him to contact the BTP immediately. People can provide information by texting 61106 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 2300120409.
Detective Inspector Ascott stated, “I would urge anyone who recognises the man in the images to get in touch with us as soon as possible, as we believe he may be able to assist with our enquiries.” He assured the local community of additional reassurance patrols in the area in the coming days.
