A man has been charged following a violent assault on a police officer in Rochester. The officer suffered head injuries but has since been discharged from hospital.

Shocking Early Morning Attack

Police were patrolling Rochester High Street around 1.30am on Sunday, 28 September 2025, when they spotted suspicious behaviour near a car park. As officers approached, a man tried to make a quick getaway.

It is alleged that during the confrontation, one officer was struck and injured. The assaulted officer required hospital treatment for head wounds but is now recovering.

Drugs and Cash Found at the Scene

The suspect was promptly arrested and taken into custody. Police found cocaine and cash on-site, hinting at deeper criminal activity.

Maurice Lennon Faces Multiple Charges

29-year-old Maurice Lennon, with no fixed address, was charged with actual bodily harm, possession of cocaine with intent to supply, and obstructing a police officer. He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 29 September, and has been remanded in custody.

Lennon is due to stand trial at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, 27 October 2025.
