Britain is bracing for a drenching this weekend as the remnants of TWO hurricanes, Humberto and Imelda, race across the Atlantic towards the UK. A 37-hour yellow rain warning is active from 5pm Thursday to 6am Friday. Villages in Argyll, Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire, and Renfrewshire face the risk of being cut off under relentless downpours, especially in hilly areas.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Chris Bulmer warned: “The situation becomes more complex later in the week as tropical cyclones Humberto and Imelda, currently over the southwest Atlantic, influence our weather. If this materialises, we could see very strong winds and further heavy rain Friday into Saturday, but the exact track remains uncertain. We’re monitoring closely.”

- Imelda: Tropical Storm packing 65mph winds. It hit the northern Caribbean yesterday, causing school closures in the Bahamas and claiming two lives in Cuba. Expected to strengthen into a hurricane before moving into open ocean.
- Humberto: Category 3 hurricane with 115mph winds swirling 265 miles southwest of Bermuda. Once a Category 5, it remains a threat near Bermuda with a hurricane watch in effect.
These storms are likely to get caught in the jet stream by midweek, pushing their soggy, windy remnants across the UK and northwest Europe. They could spark Britain’s first named storm of the season, Storm Amy, though neither currently qualifies for the title.

Senior meteorologist Marco Petagna tweeted: “Ten inches of rain not out of the question over the highest ground in western Scotland in the next few days… pretty incredible rainfall totals.”
