The M20 in kent-england/”>Kent is totally closed westbound between junctions 9 (england/Ashfordashford/”>Ashford) and 8 (Maidstone) after a vehicle caught fire on the raised section above the A20.
Fiery Incident Brings Traffic to Standstill
Around 3:30pm, traffic was held in both directions as Kent Fire and Rescue tackled the blaze. By 4:20pm, the fire was under control and eastbound traffic was released.
However, the westbound carriageway remains shut. National Highways Traffic Officers are managing the situation at J9, slowly releasing trapped vehicles past the scene in Lanelane three of three.
The closure is expected to last due to the need to recover the burnt vehicle and Dealdeal with a major diesel spill. The road surface will be assessed and may require resurfacing before reopening.
