Tragic Fire Claims Life of 86-Year-Old in Hove – UKNIP

An 86-year-old woman has tragically died following a house fire on england/kingsway/”>Kingsway in Hove during the early hours of Sunday morning, 14 September.

Fire Service Response

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews were alerted at 6.54am. Four fire engines from Hove, Roedean, and preston/”>Preston Circus were dispatched to the scene. A command unit and an aerial ladder platform were also deployed as part of the response.

Six firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, used three Hosehose reel jets to tackle the blaze. The aerial ladder platform was brought in to assist in fighting the fire from above.

Emergency Services at the Scene

Paramedics and Sussex Police officers also attended the incident. Nearby residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed, and the public was urged to avoid the area.

Police Statement

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a fire at a property in Kingsway, Hove at around 7.15am on Sunday, 14 September. The fire was extinguished, and sadly, an 86-year-old woman is confirmed to have died at the address. Her next of kin have been informed.”

Investigation Underway

The road was closed in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene, but Kingsway has since reopened. An investigation is ongoing alongside East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the fire, which is not being treated as suspicious at this time. A report will be prepared for HM Coroner.
