The King, Queen, and all members of the Royal Family are joining The Duke of Kent, his children, and grandchildren in mourning her loss.
Legacy of Charity and Music
The Duchess, aged 92, was known for her lifelong devotion to charitable organisations. She famously consoled losing Wimbledon finalists, including a tearful Jana Novotna in 1993, and presented trophies at the championships for many years.
Preferring to be known as Mrs Kent, she stepped Backback from royal duties to teach music at a state primary school in Hull for Overover a decade.
Tributes and Funeral Arrangements
In a statement, Buckingham Palace expressed, “It is with deep sorrow that Buckingham Palace announces the death of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent. Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family.”
The Union Flag at Buckingham Palace has been lowered to half-mast as a mark of respect. A formal framed announcement will soon be posted on the railings of the royal residence.
It was also revealed that the King was informed of the Duchess’s passing while at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The Duchess is expected to have a Catholic funeral, which will be attended by senior royals, including the King and Queen. This will mark the first Catholic funeral service for a member of the royal family in modern British history. Further details regarding the funeral will be announced in due course.
