Floral tributes have been left near the spot where a man was beaten to death in Leysdown earlier this month.
Tributes Laid Near Pub
Three floral tributes — a bouquet and two posies of dried flowers — have been tied to a wooden stile overlooking the Warden Bay pub, close to where Alexander Cashford, 49, was found fatally injured.
His body was discovered on waste ground between the pub and the beach on the evening of Sunday, August 10. Despite CPR being carried out by members of the public, Mr Cashford was declared dead at 8.05pm after police and paramedics arrived.
Teenagers Charged With Murder
Kent Police confirmed three teenagers — a 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 14 and 15, from London and Essex — have been charged with murder. They appeared before Maidstone Crown Court last week and were remanded into custody at a youth detention centre.
The trio, who cannot be named due to their ages, are due to stand trial in January in a hearing expected to last up to six weeks.
A 12-year-old girl from Basildon, Essex, who was also arrested in connection with the attack, has been released on bail.
Attack and Investigation
It is alleged the victim was killed after an altercation which involved the use of stones and a glass bottle. Detectives are also aware of a video circulating on social media which is said to show the attack.
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses, CCTV and dashcam footage. Anyone with information should call 01622 652006 quoting reference 46/139384/25.
Background
Mr Cashford, who was born in Minster but had been living in Gillingham, is understood to have also had a home in Warden Bay.
An inquest has been opened and adjourned by Coroner Katrina Hepburn.
It later emerged that in March 2025, Mr Cashford had admitted a stalking charge at North Kent Magistrates’ Court and was serving a one-month curfew with an electronic tag until September. He had also previously been jailed for three years and four months in 2015 after admitting vehicle theft, money laundering and related offences worth more than £63,000.
