Drivers are facing long delays after a serious multi-vehicle collision forced the closure of the M1 southbound in Bedfordshire this afternoon.
The motorway is currently shut between Junction 13 (Bedford) and Junction 12 (Flitwick) while emergency services respond.
Emergency Response
Bedfordshire Police, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, East of England Ambulance Service and the East Anglian Air Ambulance are all at the scene.
National Highways traffic officers are assisting with traffic management. No details have yet been released about injuries or the number of vehicles involved.
Diversion in Place
Drivers are being diverted via the Hollow Square diversion route, leaving at J13 and following:
- Exit at J13 onto the A421 Bedford Road.
- Continue to the Bedford Road/Station Road crossroads, then turn right onto the A507 Ridgemont by-pass.
- Follow the A507 through Ridgmont and on to Fordfield Road, then Steppingley Road.
- Continue past Flitwick Railway Station to the A5120 roundabout.
- Take the second exit onto the A5120 through Westoning, before rejoining the M1 at J12.
