MIGRANT HOTEL Brothers Among Four Jailed Over Rotherham Hotel Riot
Brothers Among Four Jailed Over Rotherham Hotel Riot

Four men – including two brothers – have been jailed for their part in large-scale disorder at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Manvers, Rotherham in August 2024.

Concrete slabs and missiles thrown at police

The violence erupted outside the hotel, where police officers were protecting the building and its occupants. Jason McGuire, 31, of Schofield Street, Mexborough, was recorded throwing rocks and concrete slabs at officers and smashing hotel windows.

When shown footage of his actions in police interview, McGuire refused to answer questions. He pleaded guilty to violent disorder and was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on 11 August to three years in prison.

His older brother, Scott McGuire, 34, also of Schofield Street, Mexborough, was filmed kicking objects towards police. He initially claimed he was at the hotel to “get a meal”, but declined to comment further in interview. He also admitted violent disorder and received three years in prison.

Identified through public appeals

Keethan Reeve-Lawson, 22, of Mount Vernon Road, Barnsley, was seen shouting at officers before running forward and hurling a missile. He was identified following a public appeal, arrested, and later pleaded guilty. He was jailed for 22 months.

Daniel Kazemi, 35, of Edna Street, Bolton-upon-Dearne, attempted to disguise himself by pulling his hood over his face, but was clearly caught on video pushing against police shields and throwing objects. Public tip-offs led to his arrest. Kazemi also pleaded guilty to violent disorder and was jailed for 22 months.

Police response

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the sentences reflected the “serious and dangerous nature” of the violence.

“Our officers faced sustained aggression while simply doing their job to protect people inside the hotel. These jail terms send a clear message that such disorder will not be tolerated,” the spokesperson added.
