A man in his 50s has died after being struck by a pickup truck in Crawshawbooth, prompting police to arrest five people — including a 14-year-old boy — on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving while impaired through drink or drugs.
Emergency services were called to Burnley Road at around 10:06pm on Friday (8 August) following reports that a Toyota Hilux Invincible had collided with a pedestrian crossing the carriageway. A Volkswagen Golf was also reported to have been in close proximity at the time of the incident.
Despite efforts by paramedics, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His family is being supported by specially trained officers.
Arrests Made
Lancashire Police confirmed that:
- An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
- Two 19-year-old men, a 14-year-old boy, and a second 18-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving while impaired through drink or drugs.
All five remain in police custody.

Sgt Bex Price from Lancashire Police’s Road Policing Unit said:
“This collision has resulted in a man losing his life and first and foremost my thoughts remain with his loved one at this devastating time. Work is now ongoing to establish the full circumstances which led to the collision.”
Officers are urging anyone with CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area at the time to come forward.
